But her parents have now skipped Letby’s sentencing in a chilling show of solidarity.

Letby will die in jail after receiving a whole life sentence as the families of her victims slammed her for refusing to attend court.

There were tears in court today as the brave families of Letby’s victims read powerful victim impact statements.

Her heinous crimes were unmasked during a nearly 10-month trial where it was revealed she also attempted to kill six other newborns.

Here’s all we know about the serial killer’s parents Susan and John Letby.

Who is Lucy Letby’s mother Susan?

Lucy Letby’s mother Susan, 63, from Hereford, was visibly devastated when the first guilty verdicts were read out.

When the serial killer was found guilty, retail boss Susan, 63, fell sobbing into the arms of her husband John, 77.

She could be heard saying: “You can’t be serious – this can’t be right.”

When cops arrested Letby at her Chester home back in 2018, Susan reportedly told officers: “I did it, take me instead.”

Who is Lucy Letby’s father John?

Lucy Letby’s dad John, 77, is a retired accounts clerk who lives with Susan in Hereford.

The evil nurse’s close relationship with John and Susan came under scrutiny during the trial.

They rented a flat in Manchester so they could attend every day of their daughter’s mammoth trial.

But they missed the final verdicts after shameless Letby refused to take her seat in the dock – in an apparent show of support for her.

Susan and John threatened to report doctors to the General Medical Council after she was kicked out of the Countess of Chester neonatal unit over concerns about her role in unexplained baby deaths.

The couple raised Letby in a semi at the end of the Hereford cul-de-sac where they still live.

They marked her 21st birthday and graduation from nursing college with notices in the local paper.

Their notice for Letby read: “We are so proud of you after all your hard work.”

Letby, the first in her family to go to university, told friends: “My parents worry massively about everything and anything.

“They hate that I live alone. I feel bad because I know it’s really hard for them – especially as I’m an only child.

“They mean well, just a little suffocating at times and constantly feel guilty.”

What sentence did Lucy Letby receive?

Lucy Letby will die in jail after receiving a whole life sentence as the families of her victims slammed her for refusing to attend court.

The killer nurse became Britain’s most prolific child killer after she was convicted of murdering seven babies in a year-long reign of terror.

The shameless monster today refused to enter court for her sentencing in a final act of wickedness from a coward”.

She was handed a whole life order that means she will be never be released from prison.

Letby is just the third woman ever to be handed the sentence after Rose West and Joanna Dennehy.

Mr Justice Goss said: “You acted in a way that was completely contrary to the normal human instincts of nurturing and caring for babies and in gross breach of the trust that all citizens place in those who work in the medical and caring professions.

“The babies you harmed were born prematurely and some were at risk of not surviving but in each case you deliberately harmed them, intending to kill them.”

The judge also told how “lifelong harm” had been caused after Letby targeted babies whose lives were cut short “almost as soon as they began” in “horrific circumstances”.

He added: “There was premeditation, calculation and cunning in your actions.”

There were tears in court today as the brave families of Letby’s victims read powerful victim impact statements.
